Champagne Billecart-Salmon is an independent and family-owned champagne house situated in the charming village of Mareuil-sur-Ay in the heart of Champagne. It was founded in 1818 after the marriage of Nicolas Francois Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon.

Since then, for almost 200 years, every member of the Billecart family has continued to stand by their oath of giving priority to quality and striving for excellence. Today, the 6th generation is represented by Francois and Antoine Roland-Billecart, who lead this independent house with the support of their father, Jean Roland-Billecart. The firm owns 74 acres of its own vines and purchases grapes from growers comprising another 346 acres. Ninety percent of the fruit for Billecart comes from 40 crus within a 20-mile radius of Epernay.

The Billecart portfolio includes the Brut Reserve, Brut Rose, Extra Brut, Demi-Sec, Brut Sous Bois, Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart, and the ultimate expression for the House, the vintage Le Clos Saint Hilaire, a blanc de noirs Champagne sourced from a tiny plot planted in 1964.

The winery employs sustainable viticulture practices, without the use of pesticides and herbicides, and the wines are aged in oak in Billecart's limestone cellars.

The 9998 Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs is a captivating Champagne blend that showcases the mastery of the renowned producer, Billecart-Salmon. Hailing from the prestigious Champagne region of France, this white wine exudes elegance and finesse in every sip.

Pouring a pale straw color into the glass, this Blanc de Blancs immediately captivates with its radiant appearance. The effervescence dances gracefully, creating a mesmerizing display. With a closure sealed by a cork, this wine presents itself as a timeless classic.

On the nose, the aromas are inviting and exuberant. Notes of citrus oil, tart stone fruit, freshly baked bread, and white flowers intertwine, creating a symphony of scents that delight the senses. It's a bouquet that invites exploration and promises an extraordinary experience.

Upon the first sip, this medium to full-bodied wine envelops the palate with a pillowy texture. The sweet core of fruit is beautifully framed by racy acids and a chalky structure, showcasing a well-balanced composition. The mouthfeel is layered and velvety, leaving a lasting impression.

Accolades from esteemed wine critics further solidify the excellence of this Blanc de Blancs. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it a remarkable score of 93, praising its citrus aromas and pillowy texture. Wine Spectator bestowed a score of 92, highlighting its well-honed acidity and nectarine flavors. Meanwhile, Wine Enthusiast awarded it an impressive score of 94, noting its fine texture, fruity character, and steely edge.

As a wine expert, I recommend cellaring this Blanc de Blancs to allow it to develop further complexity. However, it can also be enjoyed now, especially when paired with seafood, poultry, or creamy cheeses. Whether you choose to savor it immediately or age it for a special occasion, the 9998 Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs promises a remarkable journey into the world of Champagne.
