Wine Spectator, July 2024

Amazing aromas of plums, strawberries, and minerals follow through to a full-bodied palate, with ultraripe tannins and a long, mineral and blackberry aftertaste. Gorgeous. So fresh and structured. Best after 2010.

The 2000 Gaja Sori Tildin is a magnificent representation of the Nebbiolo varietal. Crafted by the esteemed Gaja winery nestled in the heart of Italy's Piedmont region, this exquisite wine hails specifically from the Serralunga d'Alba appellation, a renowned domain within the broader Barolo sub-region. The wine's striking red hue is a captivating prelude to the sensory journey that awaits.

On the nose, the Sori Tildin emanates a mature, warm bouquet, revealing tantalising notes of ripe fruit, chocolate, and licorice. These aromas promise an opulent, flavourful experience, and the wine does not disappoint. As it graces the palate, it unfurls its true depth and complexity. The richness of the extraction is readily apparent, delivering a round and supple mouthfeel that is a signature of the Nebbiolo grape.

The finish is where the 2000 Gaja Sori Tildin truly distinguishes itself. It is ample, lingering, leaving a lasting impression and a desire for the next sip. This wine is a testament to the prowess of its producer and the richness of the Barolo terroir.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, in its review, has lauded this wine, awarding it a formidable score of 93. The review highlights the wine's superior roundness, suppleness, extraction richness, and ample finish, setting it a notch above its peers. The 2000 Gaja Sori Tildin is a wine to be savoured and remembered, a radiant jewel in the crown of Italian viticulture.
