Jack and Dolores Cakebread bought their first vineyard in 1972, a 22-acre site. The next year, they founded their Rutherford-based winery, Cakebread Cellars. The winery now holds 1,100 acres spread over 13 sites in Napa Valley and Anderson Valley with about 560 of those acres under vine. Cakebread is still owned and operated by the family.

Cakebread Cellars is best-known for its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. It also produces Anderson Valley Pinot Noir, Lake County Zinfandel and Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Merlot.

The wine styles are flavorful and generally fruit-driven, but still reflective of terroir. New French oak is used moderately and enhances the wine without obscuring natural complexity.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the 2021 Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Reserve. This exquisite white wine hails from the prestigious Napa appellation in the North Coast region of California, USA. Crafted by the renowned producer Cakebread Cellars, this Chardonnay is a true gem that exemplifies the elegance and finesse for which the region is known.

In the glass, this Chardonnay showcases a radiant golden hue that shimmers with vitality. With each swirl, the wine coats the glass, leaving behind a delicate film that hints at its richness and complexity. The nose is an enchanting bouquet of ripe tropical fruits, including juicy pineapple, succulent mango, and sweet guava. As the wine opens up, subtle notes of toasted oak and vanilla emerge, adding depth and character to the aromatic profile.

On the palate, the 2021 Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Reserve is a symphony of flavors. Luscious layers of ripe peach and apricot dance gracefully with hints of citrus, creating a harmonious balance of sweetness and acidity. The creamy texture caresses the tongue, while the vibrant acidity provides a refreshing lift and ensures a lingering finish.

This Chardonnay is a masterclass in winemaking, showcasing the perfect marriage of old-world elegance and new-world innovation. The grapes are carefully handpicked and sorted, ensuring only the finest fruit makes it into the final blend. Fermented in French oak barrels and aged sur lie, this wine gains complexity and structure, resulting in a truly remarkable expression of the varietal.

Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with a delectable seafood dish, the 2021 Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Reserve is sure to enchant and captivate even the most discerning palates.
