Domaine Tessier has popped up on our radar now and again, always impressing us with a pretty tight lineup of extremely well crafted 1er cru Meursault. Arnaud and Catherine Tessier are “blessed with choice parcels in some of the commune's finest sites” (Wine Advocate), including some old vines in the top crus of the AOC. Le Poruzot Dessus is their oldest parcel, planted in the late 1940s, and the husband-and-wife team have been working these vines together since Arnaud’s father passed away in 2009, taking the reins at 22 years old. Of course, he already had more experience than most, after spending his childhood in these vineyards, and that’s still where he puts most of his time. Arnaud Tessier practices organic farming, manual harvests, and uses horses instead of tractors in the vineyards, with the result being a range of sublime Meursault.

Le Poruzot Dessus is arguably Tessier’s most important cru, alongside Charmes Dessus, and like its sibling, the focus here is on an old school Meursault style: “tensile wines that unfold slowly and reward bottle age” (Wine Advocate). This cru gets a light touch in the cellar with about 20% new French oak and only indigenous yeasts, and it is a serious outperformer from a domaine that remains criminally underrated.
