Duncan Arnot-Meyers and Nathan Roberts have been working out of a converted warehouse in Healdsburg, Sonoma for over 20 years, and their ultra small batch operation produces some of California’s most sought after wines. Their “pure and seemingly effortless line-up” (Decanter) includes a huge array of varieties from Cab Franc to Trousseau, but it is hard to ignore their work with Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. The ‘Heaven & Earth’ Vineyard is just outside Occidental about 8 miles from the Pacific, nestled in a tiny valley surrounded by coastal forest. The unique microclimate of the site yields a Pinot that is distinctly deeper and with a more effusive personality than you often get in these cold climate vineyards, with a “core of macerated red cherry fruit, kirsch, blood orange and new leather” (Vinous). Combined with the 100% whole cluster fermentation, you get a cool climate Pinot with serious sap and flair.

Deep floral and spice inflections meld into a core of macerated red cherry fruit, kirsch, blood orange and new leather. This is a bit extroverted for Arnot-Roberts, but it all works so well. Here too, the 100% stems add layers of nuance without dominating the wine's balance.”
