Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, January 1994

Tasted 2 Times With Consistent NotesPalmer's 1945 (never tasted stateside) is one of the few 1945s that can be called exceptionally opulent super-rich and fat in its chewy nearly over-ripe fruit. It is a rich succulent...

The Wine Independent, October 2025

1945 Palmer has a classically developed edge with a very sweet bouquet, filled with rawness, fruit and deep cassis. The taste is fine, elegant and dough-like, reminiscent of old champagne. The aftertaste is long and...

Vinous, August 2023

The 1945 Palmer might not rank among the best wines of this fabled victory vintage, though that is no surprise given that it had been billeted by occupying German soldiers. Clear in color, it has a reasonably complex...

Wine Spectator, November 1995

Firm still somewhat chewy in tannin but tightly packed with black cherry anise and toast flavors that remain on the long long finish. A solid ?45 featuring style and enough grace to make up for the chewiness.--1945...

Finesse and elegance, typical of the great wines of Margaux, are the trademarks of Chateau Palmer. The unusual combination of grape varieties for a classified Left Bank wine–as much Merlot as Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Petit Verdot–gives Chateau Palmer a bouquet of extraordinary complexity, with fruit, flowers, and spice wrapped in a fleshy and generous structure. The subtle balance between aromatic richness and powerful, yet always restrained, tannins makes Palmer charming even when very young.

The grapes are fermented separately by variety and plot in 54 conical, stainless steel vats. The wine then ages 18 to 21 months in French oak barrels, less than 50% new.
