Tasted blind at The Arches restaurant, this 1993 is a little chunky and rustic at first, but just look how it unfolds in the glass. Tertiary aromas and strong graphite scents dominate giving this a real traditional Graves likes scent. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It is quite dry and perhaps a little austere, but it certainly has a much better core of fruit than other 1993s whilst the finish has a pleasurable roundness to it with touches of liquorice and black truffle. This is a very fine, traditional style of Pape-Clement.
