A triumphant bottle, the 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Bella Oaks Vineyard boasts expansive aromas of black cherries and cassis framed by hints of pipe tobacco. In the mouth, it's supple and full-bodied, ripe, rich and complete, with a softly dusty finish tinged with dark chocolate. Still wonderfully perfumed, this full-bodied effort does seem poised on a knife's edge of balance, so drink it over the near term. - Joe Czerwinski

A beating pulse of fresh red plum and cassis flavours persists here, shaded with herbaceous, dusty layers of mint, sage and thyme. Produced in a vintage marked by extreme weather but a long growing season, it's a soft, luscious wine with mouthcoating tannins and hints of cocoa powder and sweet spice that linger on the finish. While settled comfortably into maturity now, it can hold at least a decade longer.
