Formerly known as Three Rivers this cuvee can be one of Australia’s greatest Shiraz. However 2000 was a challenging year for this 95-year-old vineyard cropped at .5 tons of fruit per acre (only 60 cases produced). As Chris Ringland admitted it was a very cold year the harvest was delayed and selection was Draconian. The wine exhibits a dense purple color along with a sweet nose of graphite spicy oak blackberries and cassis. In the mouth it is medium to full-bodied and concentrated with good acidity as well as outstanding depth and ripeness. Give it another 2-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 15 years. No it doesn’t compare with some of the greatest wines Chris Ringland has made but it’s a strong effort in a tough vintage.
