The 2000 Lanson “Noble Cuvée” Blanc de Blancs is drinking beautifully and at its apogee at age eighteen. The bouquet shows lovely secondary layers of complexity in its mix of pear, delicious apple, wheat toast, chalky minerality, a touch of nuttiness and plenty of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very refined in personality, with a fine core, elegant mousse and impressive length and grip on the wide open, vibrant and complex finish. Produced from Grand Cru vineyards on the Côte des Blancs, this wine, now mature, is ripe and rich. While the initial fruit has diminished, it has not forgotten its tight, mineral texture and crisp acidity. The toast flavors, now dominant, are given a final lift by hints of honeyed almonds and steely acidity.
