I had this wine from my cellar, as well as at a tasting in Zurich in February of 2015. It is one of the handful of 2003s I bought from the Right Bank of Bordeaux in this vintage. Angelus really nailed the vintage, and has produced a fully mature wine that’s truly strutting its stuff. Dense, bluish/purple, it offers gorgeous notes of espresso roast, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, acacia flowers and a touch of chocolate. It is full-bodied, opulent and seems close to full maturity, as it is evolving quickly. The wine is full-bodied, rich and should be drunk over the next decade. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

The complex set of aromatics kicks off with smoky cherries, figs, chocolate, espresso, tobacco, licorice, mint chip ice cream, and plum liqueur. Avoiding the often-encountered jamminess of the vintage, the wine offers a sensual, rich, luscious palate experience centered around chocolate-coated cherries, and black plums with salty caramel. The wine is long, concentrated, and showy. No decanting or further aging is required, just pop, pour, and enjoy over a few hours. Drink from 2024-2033.

blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, the 2003 Angelus is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. It needs a little swirling to bring out notes of cherry compote, preserved plums, mulberries, and redcurrant jelly, giving way to scents of dried roses, Indian spices, and unsmoked cigars. The medium-bodied palate is rich and impactful with wonderfully plush tannins and incredible tension, finishing with a lot of brightness and great length! - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

2003 Angelus has taken some time to come around. It has always been a sweet, jammy even sexy wine with notes of coffee, mocha and Asian spices but a lot of its charm was masked by the sheer depths of the tannins and fruit reserves. It is starting to becoming itself now and offers seductive drinking and pleasant company and should stay on top for the next many years. - Ivar Bjurner

A compelling nose of curry and dark fruits, with rose petal and tobacco undertones. Frankly, a wild nose. Full-bodied and racy, this has fine tannins and a round texture. Fresh herbs, berries, and currants on the palate open up to a fresh finish. Three more years will do this wine good. Pull the cork in 2013.
