I might have a slight preference for this over the 2001 but I can’t make up my mind yet. It seems to have more richness and sweetness, with loads of apple tart, caramel and spice character. The noble rot certainly did its good here. Long, long finish. Beautiful sweet wine. Drink or hold.

This is very sweet and rich on the nose with toffee honey and spices. Full-bodied and thick honey. Spice dried apricot and syrup flavors. Lasts for minutes on the palate. Big botrytis bomb. Love it. Best after 2010. 8000 cases made. –JS

The wine is already transitioning to a beautiful amber color. It is highly aromatic with pronounced notes of ultra ripe yellow peaches, apricots and orange rind with nuances of honeysuckle, orchard flowers and even some lavender. Notes of stone-like minerals complete the profile. Transitioning to the palate this Guiraud carries everything you’d expect from the nose, with a honey-like viscosity that pleasantly coats the mouth. It has a solid spine of acidity that keeps the wine lively on the palate. The finish is long and fulfilling. Pair with the classics for Sauternes: foie gras, blue cheese salad or yet a plate of strong aged cheese. Drink now or hold another 20 years.
