Also leaning strongly towards the meaty, savory spectrum, the 2006 Clarendon Hills Syrah Moritz (100% Syrah aged for 18 months in 85% new French oak) exhibits a wild, rugged array of ripe plum ,blackberry, charred meats, leather, dried underbrush, and herbs on the nose. This is a big Syrah that has a full-bodied, textured mouth feel, good freshness, and a chewy, heady finish. While this doesn’t have the seamlessness and integration of some of the other single vineyard Syrahs, it’s certainly outstanding, and will offer a decade or prime drinking.
