This is a quintessentially elegant Margaux, with a dense ruby/purple color and notes of charcoal, cassis, a hint of smoking embers, and a subtle touch of spring flower garden. Dense on the palate with medium to full-bodied flavors, superb concentration, and moderate tannin, this wine requires patience, but is impeccably well-made as usual. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2024. - Robert Parker

(ST89-91 points) Ruby-red. Aromas of licorice, violet and minerals, with a peppery nuance. Tightly wound but fine-grained, with a cool restraint to the flavors of black fruits, violet and licorice. Tightly wound but fine-grained, with a cool restraint to the flavors of black fruits, violet and licorice. This spreads out nicely on the back end, with the serious chocolatey tannins reaching the front teeth. Good minerality contributes to the impression of structure. The property features 50% cabernet and 50% merlot by acreage, but this 2006 blend is 75% cabernet.
