Wine Enthusiast, August 2018

This is the latest release of this legendary wine. A blend, although with a majority of Pinot Noir (Churchill's preference), the wine is rich, just beginning to show wonderful signs of maturity. It still has intense fruit...

jamessuckling.com, October 2017

Some reductive meaty notes of bacon fat and flint, with lemon cream and butter too, as well as a light forest berry edge and toasted hazelnuts. The palate has attractive lemon citrus cream flavor. Super pure, there's...

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, August 2017

(18.5/20) Deep with impressively lively and tiny bead. Very intense with a fresh mint note. Round and magnificent. Excellent freshness. Impossible to spit. Beautiful balance. Satin-textured. Not as cigar-fumed as some...

Wine Spectator, November 2017

This dances gracefully on the palate, with rich and expressive flavors of peach tart, raspberry sorbet, candied ginger and orange peel, and sleek acidity that leaves a mouthwatering impression on the satiny finish. Drink...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2023

A broader, lower-acidity vintage, the 2006 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill bursts with aromas of confit citrus, peach, buttered toast, smoke and coffee. Full-bodied, open and gourmand, its expansive attack segues into a rich...

Champagne Pol Roger created their Prestige Cuvee in homage to Sir Winston Churchill, mindful of the qualities that he sought in his champagne : robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity. The exact blend is a closely guarded family secret but it is undeniable that the composition would meet with the approval of the man to whom it is dedicated.

Pinot Noir predominates, providing structure, breadth and robustness whilst Chardonnay contributes elegance, finesse and subtlety. Composed exclusively of grapes sourced from Grands Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards, which were already under vine during Churchill's lifetime, Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill is only made in the very best vintages and is always released later than the other vintage-dated Champagnes from Pol Roger, marking Churchill's appreciation for older wines.

The 2006 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill is a distinguished Champagne blend from France's renowned Champagne region. This vintage is noted for its finesse and complexity, capturing the essence of the year with its broader, lower-acidity profile. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate describes it as "a broader, lower-acidity vintage" with aromas of "confit citrus, peach, buttered toast, smoke, and coffee." This full-bodied Champagne is praised for its rich mid-palate and sapid finish.

Wine Spectator awarded it a score of 95, highlighting its "rich and expressive flavors of peach tart, raspberry sorbet, candied ginger, and orange peel." The wine, which is recommended to be consumed now through 2031, leaves a "mouthwatering impression on the satiny finish."

James Suckling also rated it 95, noting its "reductive meaty notes of bacon fat and flint," along with lemon cream and butter. He describes it as having "power amongst the charm," and commends its purity and flavor balance.

Jancis Robinson's review, which also scored the wine at 95, appreciates its depth and lively bead, describing it as "very intense with a fresh mint note." She praises its balance and satiny texture, noting it as "impossible to spit."

Wine Enthusiast, awarding an impressive 98 points, describes this as a "standout Champagne from this vintage," noting its rich flavor and maturity signs, with potential for further aging. It is primarily composed of Pinot Noir, reflecting Churchill's preference, and retains intense fruit and a taut mineral texture.

Wine & Spirits provides a slightly lower score of 92 but still praises the wine for its "seamless elegance and clarity of fresh citrus flavor," emphasizing its "airy fragrance and spicy lemon zest."

Overall, the 2006 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill is a remarkable Champagne that has garnered high praise across the board, demonstrating both richness and elegance.
