Wow. Minerals, cedar, almost like warm stones in the heat. And then some spice. A wine that’s gorgeous, beautiful to taste now, but you know there’s so much more coming to it. Will be better in three to five years. But...

Deep red color with a light ruby rim. Expressive aromas of chocolate coffee and mocha with some dark fruits in there as well. Ripe blackberry and blueberry attribute to a luscious and delightful mid-palate. Showing good...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2010

Slowly the potential of this impressive wine is coming out. It is rich, the new wood flavors blending with the ripe blackberry sweetness and tight tannins. Chocolate flavor power through this concentrated wine.

Medium/full bodied, showing age in its color, the wine has entered its secondary stage, with its tobacco, cassis, forest floor and cherry pipe tobacco aromatics. There is fruit in the finish, which has a bit of rusticity...

The 2007 Pontet-Canet showed well, with a soft, rounded, medium to full-bodied style that is endearing and a joy to drink. Offering up plenty of spicy dark fruits, cedarwood, and lead pencil notes, it has sweet tannins...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, July 2017

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Pontet-Canet has an upfront bouquet with (for the vintage) quite lavish red and black fruit tinged with violet and creme de cassis. The palate is sweet and...

Chateau Pontet-Canet is bright and brilliant with full-bodied fruit, yet finesse, in the mouth. It expresses energy, tension and intensity.

The fruit is fermented with native yeast in semi-conical concrete tanks that facilitate punch-downs. The wine then macerates for an additional four weeks before being removed from the pomace for maturation. One-third of the wine is aged in large, concrete amphorae, designed expressly for Pontet-Canet. The rest ages in French oak barrels.

The 2007 Pontet-Canet, a Bordeaux Blend from the renowned region of Pauillac, France, is a red wine that has garnered significant attention and praise from wine critics. This vintage, produced by Pontet-Canet, features a 13.0% alcohol content and is sealed with a traditional cork closure.

Alex Lallos of JJ Buckley awarded the wine a 94, describing it as having a "deep red color with a light ruby rim" and noting its "expressive aromas of chocolate coffee and mocha" along with a "luscious and delightful mid-palate" filled with ripe blackberry and blueberry. He praised it as "perhaps the best Pauillac" he had tasted, highlighting its good concentration and complexity.

Wine Enthusiast also rated it 94, remarking on the wine's "impressive" potential with "rich, new wood flavors blending with ripe blackberry sweetness and tight tannins." They noted the powerful chocolate flavor as a key characteristic.

James Suckling gave it an even higher score of 95, emphasizing its "minerals, cedar" and likening it to "warm stones in the heat." He predicted that while it's "gorgeous" now, it will improve over the next three to five years, recommending decanting a couple of hours in advance.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck both awarded it a score of 91. Parker's review highlighted the wine's "upfront bouquet" and "lavish red and black fruit," noting its ability to "overcome the limitations of the growing season" albeit at the expense of some typicité. Jeb Dunnuck described it as "soft, rounded" with "plenty of spicy dark fruits, cedarwood, and lead pencil notes," praising its "impeccable balance."

Jeff Leve scored it 92, observing that it is in its secondary stage with "tobacco, cassis, forest floor and cherry pipe tobacco aromatics," and noted its rustic finish.

Overall, the 2007 Pontet-Canet is a well-regarded Bordeaux Blend with rich flavors, complexity, and aging potential, making it a standout choice for wine enthusiasts.
