The 2007 Trotanoy is deep garnet in color. It races out with ready-to-go notes of kirsch, boysenberry preserves, and plum pudding, giving way to suggestions of Chinese five spice, iron ore, and fragrant soil. The medium-bodied palate is taut with muscular fruit and great tension, textured by grainy tannins and finishing long with a spicy kick. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. The green notes that marred barrel samples of this wine seem to have disappeared by the time of bottling. Here, the Trotanoy 2007 has a compelling nose, broody at first but then offering touches of smoke and green bell pepper. Good definition and vigour. The palate is very plush on the entry with rounded mouth-feel, lovely caressing texture lending this Pomerol 2007s great sensuality. Not a powerful finish, but it is certainly very refined.

Fully mature and drinking at point, the 2007 reveals a vivid ruby hue as well as a complex perfume of currant buds, cedarwood, tobacco, and truffly earth, with plenty of green and herbal undercurrents. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it's a more ethereal, nuanced wine compared to more powerful recent vintages yet still has classic Pomerol sexiness and texture. It's not going to get better, but it certainly has another decade of prime drinking and a gradual decline after that.

The 2007 Trotanoy is a beautiful middleweight in the making, with a sense of completeness on both the nose and palate that is immensely enjoyable. Despite the difficult summer of 2007, most merlot on the Right Bank eventually attained full ripeness by the time of the harvest in this vintage, and this is quite evident in the cool and classy profile of the ’07 Trotanoy. The bouquet is deep, pure and utterly classic, offering up a complex mélange of plums, a bit of dark berry, coffee, fresh herbs, a really striking base of soil, a whiff of cigar smoke and a deft and well-measured base of toasty new oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and beautifully balanced, with very good, but not great depth at the core, moderate tannins and outstanding length and grip on the nascently complex and very poised finish. The ’07 Trotanoy is not as powerfully built as is customary with this great estate, but there are no holes anywhere to be found on the palate of this absolutely complete and classy wine- not to mention a great value for Trot! Very aromatic with milk chocolate and red fruits. Full-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a pretty fruity finish. Not a big Trotanoy but thoroughly enjoyable already. Offers lovely fruit for the vintage. Best after 2013. 1915 cases made.
