Riserva Madonna del Piano, hails from one of the first and best single-vineyard sites in Montalcino, with production dating back to 1977. Made only in the best vintages and from the oldest vines on the property, in 1994 Valdicava was granted the right to list the Madonna del Piano vineyard designation on the label. The 19.5 hectare single vineyard is divided into four parts: old vines, Pievecchina, Pratea and Sferracavallo. Owner Vincenzo Abbruzzese harvests the vines from each part of the vineyard at different times and makes the wines separately before blending them together. The wine is then aged about two years in large old casks and another two years in bottle.

The 2007 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is a highly acclaimed red wine from Tuscany, Italy. Crafted from Sangiovese Grosso grapes, this wine showcases the exceptional qualities of the 2007 vintage in the Brunello di Montalcino sub-region.

James Suckling awarded this wine a near-perfect score of 98 points, praising its "impressively structured" nature. He noted aromas of blueberries and blackberries with hints of violets, complemented by a full body with "velvety, rich tannins." Suckling emphasized the wine's complexity, stating, "Layers of everything here," and recommended waiting another three to four years before opening for optimal enjoyment. (jamessuckling.com, 11/7/2013)

Devon Magee, writing for JJ Buckley, gave the wine a score of 93 points. He described it as "heady on the nose with ripe red fruit, Nocino, and Tuscan dust subtleties." Magee also highlighted the wine's "rich, creamy texture" and "elegant, beguiling florality." He suggested that the wine's "mouthwatering acidity" will allow it to evolve and soften over the next decade, making it a perfect pairing with pasta Bolognese. (JJ Buckley, 10/24/2016)

Wine Spectator echoed the high praise with a score of 94 points, remarking that the wine is "beginning to mellow now after 10 years." They described a bouquet of leather, licorice, macerated cherry, iron, and cigar box, with a core of sweet cherry and plum fruit. The wine's "firm, refined tannins" and long aftertaste of leather and stone were also noted. They recommended enjoying this wine from 2020 through 2033. (Wine Spectator, 7/1/2017)

Wine Enthusiast also awarded a stellar 98 points, calling it an "unforgettable wine" and a testament to the 2007 vintage. They noted "masculine tones of dark fruit, leather, and tobacco" with "dusty mineral shadings" and "tightly textured tannins." They suggested holding the wine for another decade. (Wine Enthusiast, 5/1/2013)

Antonio Galloni of Vinous gave the wine 96 points, describing it as "super-finessed" with "subtle floral notes" and "expressive red berries." He emphasized the wine's rich and deeply textured style, recommending additional aging for it to reach its full potential. (Vinous, 9/1/2013)

Overall, the 2007 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is a robust and complex wine with a promising aging potential, widely praised for its structure, aromatic profile, and refined tannins.
