The 2008 Larcis Ducasse (14.2% natural alcohol) is composed of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. Although closed at present and less prodigious than I predicted two years ago it reveals an opaque purple color plenty of sweet fruitcake black currant kirsch forest floor and earthy characteristics a full-bodied mouthfeel sweet tannins and a long finish. It just does not appear to have the extra gear or two I tasted from barrel. Nevertheless it is an outstanding wine and if it is priced fairly it should be a definite purchase to enjoy over the next 20+ years.

Located very close to Pavie Dernoncourt explained that this property may have the best terroir in St. Emilion. An exceptional nose with great complexity - enchanting notes of fresh blackberry cherry flowers and chocolate just spill from the glass. Very clean and showing great purity the dark fruit flavors are deep and rich. The tannins are very well integrated. A beautiful wine that will be immediately pleasurable and will hopefully get better with age.

The vines average 35 years. The 2008 vintage and Stephane Derenoncourt brought about a pretty interpretation of this wine with subtle pure fruit aromas melding into notes of fresh herbs caraway and peppercorn. The midpalate is round offering a clean core of fruit backed up with smoky tannins on the finish. Nice length though a bit reserved at the moment. With this property's recent track record (such as the sublime 2007) I expect it will improve with time.
