Easily the best Champagne I had all year, first tasted at a château lunch. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and eventually bought a bottle for my husband's 50th. Just so much power and precision, while still having the...

Decanter, October 2021

Dom Pérignon is named after 17th-century Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon (1638-1715), who is said to have invented sparkling wine while cellarmaster at the Abbey of Hautvillers. In truth, his task was to find a way...

Deep and generous, yet driven, with delicious salted-butter and salted-caramel notes underneath the initial lemon and chalk. Really expands on the palate in all directions. Lemon cream and shortcrust. Creamy, yet...

A wine hyped by so many (me included) and tasted more than a dozen times over the last two years. Richard Geoffroy (ex chef-de-cave) has performed a master-stroke, delivering that seemingly impossible combination of...

The 2008 Dom Pérignon is the first time the estate has released a wine out of order (the 2009 was released before the 2008) but the estate loved the wine so much they felt it warranted additional aging. This is a rich...

Clearly, this is in contention as one of the best vintages of DP ever produced. The power, levels of concentration, balance, freshness, purity and complexity are off the hook. The yellow citrus, green apple, honeysuckle...

The 2008 vintage of Dom Pérignon is an absolute classic in the making and this is destined to be one of the great recent years for this iconic cuvée. It is far more classically structured out of the blocks than the...

Possibly the world’s most recognized and iconic Champagne, Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon is always a vintage-dated wine comprised of the classic varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Elegant and graceful with excellent aging potential, it is produced only in those harvest years that the Chef de Cave declares to be of exceptional quality.

Dom. Pierre Perignon, revered as the spiritual “Father of Champagne”, was a 17th century Benedictine Monk and cellar master at Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers. He had a singular mission: to create the best wine in the world. To that mission, he dedicated 47 years of his life to invent and perfect the techniques to create a wine whose reputation knows no equal. His life-long work acquired a reputation for excellence which spread rapidly throughout the region, including the favor of the Royal Court during the reign of King Louis XIV.

Today, Richard Geoffroy, Chef de Cave and Creator of Dom Perignon Vintages, perpetuates the spirit of Dom. Pierre Perignon. The wine is produced by Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the largest luxury brand group in the world.

The 2008 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon [Champagne Blend] is an exemplary vintage from the renowned Champagne house Moet Chandon. This vintage has garnered exceptional reviews from various professional wine reviewers, underscoring its quality and potential for aging.

John Gilman from "View From The Cellar" awarded this vintage a score of 98, describing it as "an absolute classic in the making" and highlighting its "deep, complex and very youthful bouquet." He notes the presence of menthol, green apple, tangerine, and minerality, emphasizing its "stunning length and grip on the primary and laser-like finish." Gilman recommends cellaring this wine for it to reach its full potential.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, represented by William Kelley, gave the wine a score of 96, praising it as the "finest Dom Pérignon of the decade." Kelley describes it as "full-bodied, rich and fleshy," with a complex array of flavors including citrus oil, ripe orchard fruit, peach, buttered toast, and smoky reduction. He notes its "long, saline finish" and commends its graceful aging.

Antonio Galloni of Vinous also scored the wine 98, describing it as "a huge, powerful Champagne" and one of the best wines of the vintage. Galloni emphasizes the wine's interplay of fruit and structure, advising patience for those who own it.

James Suckling, from jamessuckling.com, echoes these sentiments with another 98 score, highlighting its "deep and generous" nature and "delicious salted-butter and salted-caramel notes." Suckling praises its balance of creaminess and sharp acidity.

Jeb Dunnuck also rated the vintage 98, noting its "rich, powerful" character and "incredible purity and elegance." Dunnuck considers it a "legendary Dom" that surpasses previous great vintages.

Decanter magazine, with reviewers Michelle Cherutti-Kowal MW, Stefan Neumann MS, and Matt Walls, provided detailed notes on this Champagne's "brioche, almonds, and red apples" aromas and flavors. They commended its balance, depth, and powerful, long finish, leading to another 98 score.

Jeff Leve of TheWineCellarInsider.com also gave it a 98, calling it "one of the best vintages of DP ever produced." He mentions its "yellow citrus, green apple, honeysuckle, and brioche" flavors and the "perfect amount of refined effervescence."

Jasper Morris from Inside Burgundy, who has tasted this wine multiple times, praised its "seemingly impossible combination of production volume and quality," awarding it yet another 98 score. He highlights its "cool fruited palate, compact with hidden density and a creamy finish."

Lastly, Jane Anson gave the highest rating of 100, declaring it "easily the best Champagne" she had all year. She was impressed by its "power and precision," along with notes of "toasted brioche, liquorice root, and oyster shell."

In summary, the 2008 Dom Perignon is a standout vintage, celebrated for its complexity, balance, and aging potential. It has received consistently high praise, making it a worthy addition to any Champagne collection.
