From a single parcel of old vines and vinified in barrique of mixed age Blot's 2009 Bourgueil Mi-Pente evokes sweet lily-like perfume and talcum along with scents of machine oil; peat and black tea; ripe blackberry and elderberry; and toasted walnut. Refined almost velour-like in texture this offers nutty richness and ripe black fruits along with hints of rare sirloin juices in a long buoyant downright refreshing finish. Blot suspects this deftly balanced wine will age well for the better part of two decades. Certainly I can imagine at least 8-10 years although the trade record simply isn't there other than by analogy with Bourgueil from other sites and growers. --- David Schildknecht
