The 2009 Jacquesson Extra Brut Avize Champ Cain Champagne is a noteworthy offering from the esteemed Jacquesson winery in France’s Champagne region. This vintage is a 100% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, showcasing a blend of elegance and complexity.

Disgorged in May 2019 with a minimal dosage of 1.5 grams per liter, this Champagne has garnered high praise from several critics. William Kelley of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it 94 points, commending its aromas of pear, blanched almonds, freshly baked bread, and mandarin. Kelley noted its "medium to full-bodied, pillowy and precise" nature, highlighting its "pinpoint mousse, discreet depth at the core and a long, chalky finish."

Antonio Galloni of Vinous also rated it 94 points, appreciating the wine’s ability to capture the richness of the year while maintaining the clean, mineral inflections typical of Avize. Galloni described it as "a big wine, but there is plenty of complexity too," with flavors of "petrol, apricot, dried flowers, orchard fruit, orange confit, honey and marzipan."

Roger Voss of Wine Enthusiast was particularly impressed, awarding the wine an excellent score of 96 points. Voss highlighted its "strong minerality" and "concentrated citrus and toast flavors," noting that the acidity has been "softened and beautifully integrated by the wine's maturity." He recommended drinking it now to fully appreciate its developed character.

Decanter also contributed a 94-point review, describing the wine’s "sumptuous bouquet of mint and anise, pear and peach, flowers and mineral tones." The review praised its "elegantly fleshy" palate, perfectly balanced with "white fruit aromas, lots of minerality and a seemingly weightless finish."

Wine & Spirits provided an insightful historical context, explaining that the Chiquet brothers began experimenting with single-parcel wines in the 1990s. This 2009 vintage is one of three remarkable releases from that year. The publication lauded Champ Caïn as "among the most aristocratic chardonnays," with "fresh fruit" and "floral chamomile and savory almond pastry" nuances, making it a standout choice.

Overall, the 2009 Jacquesson Extra Brut Avize Champ Cain Champagne is a highly regarded wine that balances richness, minerality, and complexity, making it a stellar selection for Champagne enthusiasts.
