Deep crimson-purple; estate-grown, and spent 24 months in French and American oak, oak which has left a significant impression; more likely than not time will bring balance, and the wine has an appealing texture, full-bodied though it may be.

Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 Oracle Shiraz gives complex notes of creme de cassis, coffee, grilled duck skin and soy over mace, licorice and tree bark. Full bodied and packed with flavor, it offers a solid backbone of crisp acid and firm, rounded tannins in the mouth, going long and spicy in the finish. One of the more backwards 2009 Shirazes in these tastings, the Oracle only stubbornly gives up hints of mint, tar and blackberry. It’s full-bodied yet quite drying and austere on the palate, where flavors of mocha, plum, blackberry and cedar dominate. Long and thickly textured on the finish, which bodes well for the cellar. Drink 2015–2025.
