A triumph for Solaia: it suggests the greatness of the legendary 1997. This is a wine with very subtle, complex aromas and flavours of currants, licorice and raspberries. Wonderful nose. Full body with ultra-fine tannins...

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, October 2014

(18.5/20) Aged 18 months in new French and Hungarian oak. Dense, chewy and intense. Beautifully handled oak, adding a slight smoky spice, like roasting coffee. Dry and long but with incredibly well-stitched tannins...

The Wine Independent, December 2022

On first impression the 2010 Marchesi Antinori Solaia has a very grippy feel to the tannins. It has a firm, muscular style with a slight austerity in terms of the acid and tannin structure. While round, viscous, and...

Decanter, January 2019

With intense black olive and tapenade aromas, this wine remains almost entirely knitted down and is still a long way from lift-off. But everything is in place for it to be exceptional. The tannins are beautifully ripe...

Solaia is a 50 acre (20 hectare), southwest-exposed vineyard of the Tignanello estate situated between 1150 and 1320 feet (350-400 meters) above sea level on stony soils consisting of calcareous clays and limestone rock. The Marchesi Antinori produced this wine for the first time in the 1978 vintage with a blend consisting of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, repeating the initial production in 1979. In the following vintages, 20% Sangiovese became part of the blend and adjustments to the ratio of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were made until the current composition of the blend was defined. Solaia is produced only in top vintages and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, or 1992.

The 2010 Antinori Solaia IGT is a proprietary blend from Tuscany, Italy, composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Franc. This red wine, produced by the esteemed Antinori winery, has garnered significant acclaim from various professional reviewers, showcasing its quality and aging potential.

James Suckling awarded the wine a remarkable 98 points, describing it as "a triumph for Solaia," reminiscent of the legendary 1997 vintage. Suckling highlights the wine's "very subtle, complex aromas and flavors of currants, licorice, and raspberries," noting its full body, ultra-fine tannins, and a finish that "lasts for minutes on the palate." He emphasizes the precision of the Cabernet Sauvignon and suggests it will be even better after further aging, recommending a drinking window starting in 2016 ("jamessuckling.com").

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate also praised the 2010 Solaia, with Monica Larner giving it 97 points. Larner describes the wine as an "incredible show" that captivates the senses with its bouquet of "ripe cherry, black currant, baking spice, and dark chocolate," followed by notes of "tobacco, balsam, bay leaf, rum cake, and dark licorice." She stresses the wine's firm structure and fleshy richness, predicting it will age well from 2015 to 2040 ("Robert Parker's Wine Advocate").

Wine Enthusiast's Kerin O'Keefe echoes these sentiments, awarding the wine 97 points and calling it "already a classic." O'Keefe highlights the wine's complex bouquet of "ripe blackberries, violets, leather, thyme, and balsamic herbs," and its palate of "rich black currants, black cherry, licorice, mint, and menthol" with polished tannins. She suggests it will continue to develop for decades, with an optimal drinking window from 2018 to 2040 ("Wine Enthusiast").

Jancis Robinson's review, which scored the wine 95 points, commends its "dense, chewy and intense" character, with "beautifully handled oak" and "well-stitched tannins." Robinson notes that while the wine is "frustratingly young," it is "entirely convincing" ("Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages").

The Wine Independent's Susan Hulme also rated it 95 points, describing it as having a "firm, muscular style" with a "slight austerity in terms of the acid and tannin structure." Hulme notes the wine's "round, viscous, and concentrated" middle and its "forest floor and wild blackberry" flavors, predicting it may need more time to reach its full potential ("The Wine Independent").

Wine Spectator and Decanter provided slightly lower but still impressive scores, with 93 and 94 points, respectively. Wine Spectator notes the wine's "dense, powerful" nature with "black currant, blackberry, and spice flavors," recommending it be enjoyed from 2016 to 2028 ("Wine Spectator"). Decanter highlights its "intense black olive and tapenade aromas" and "beautifully ripe" tannins, predicting it will become exceptional with more time ("Decanter").

In summary, the 2010 Antinori Solaia IGT is a highly acclaimed wine with a complex bouquet, robust structure, and significant aging potential, making it a standout example of Tuscan winemaking.
