The 2010 has held up a little better than the 2009, tighter, more tannic, with austere black fruits and the pumice stone scrape of limestone unmistakable. Still pretty ready to drink, but it has a good decade or more ahead of it. Owner Nelly Moulierac

85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc. 4-hectare vineyard with 40-year-old vines planted to a limestone plateau with a mix of sand clay and limestone in the vale. Yields were only 29 hls/ha. Aged for16 months in 50% new and 50% one-wine-old barrels. The nose reveals licorice truffle blackberry and plum framed by notes of vanilla and mocha. The palate is plush and modern with round tannins and great length and the elegant mid palate is filled with chalk and cassis. This should prove to be one of the top vintages of La Clotte. La Clotte from limestone sand and clay terroir this is the first vintage that the owner included Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend which consists of 85% Merlot 10% Cabernet Franc and the remainder Cabernet Sauvignon. Licorice minerality chocolate mint and plum aromas with soft textures medium/full bodied and a fresh black cherry finish. Due to its high quality great style and low price this wine is often purchased by many of St. Emilion's most famous wine makers.

2010: One of the more seductive wines of St.-Emilion La Clotte is always delicious with sweet tannins and lots of plump fruit. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc the 2010 reached 14% alcohol naturally. Delicious kirsch liqueur sandalwood and black currant characteristics along with soft velvety tannins and a luxurious finish are found in this full-bodied effort. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.
