I continue to absolutely love the 2010 Château Léoville Poyferré, and it certainly ticks all my boxes. This deep purple-hued beauty boasts phenomenal notes of crème de cassis, smoky tobacco, graphite, and leather. With full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mouthfeel, and ripe, polished tannins, it brings that rare mix of opulence and elegance and is an utter joy to drink. It needs a healthy decant if drinking any time soon and has another 3-4 decades of overall longevity. Drink 2025-2065.

61% cabernet sauvignon 30% merlot 3% cabernet franc 6% petit verdot. Alcohol of 14%. A massively dark and brooding nose is more reminiscent of the 2010s from Pauillac and gives the wine an initial impression of being a beast. It actually stays very nicely in focus on the palate as dark purple and black fruit blend with fine tannins and enough bright acidity to keep the wine lively. Silky texture and great structure. Wow - this is really a gorgeous wine and a star of the vintage. Best after 2020.

Deep colour, luscious and powerful, has the push and pull of a truly great wine, where you are not exactly sure where you will land but you are fully along for the ride. Brilliant quality, precision, smoke, liquorice, cigar box, cassis, mint leaf etching, rippled with muscle, more Pauillac than St Julien in the 2010 vintage, with decades ahead of it. Great stuff, easily one of the wines of the tasting. 80% new oak. Harvest October 1 to 18.

A wine of architectural strength and classical proportions, this has straight lines that mark the packed, concentrated fruits, which are sustained by its tannins. This is certainly the best wine that Léoville-Poyferré has produced, sumptuous while so finely structured.

Intense fruit, perfumed elements with strong wood notes. It's confident and a bit of a show-off, but the fruit and plush tannic chewiness are at the fore, so it avoids overt minerality or leanness, unlike many in the tasting. Has weight and vigour but with freshness and mass appeal. Not so refined, but not harsh either. Cool blueberries and graphite, liquorice elements. Different style to many.

Opulent aromas of blackberry, black cherry and orange peel follow through to a full body with round, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. A big, significant wine that is starting to open and come around. A long life ahead of it. Drink or hold.

Deeply colored, the wine is rich, long, deep, and concentrated. There is a fresh, spicy edge to the black and dark red fruits with lift, purity, and structure balance. The tannins are ripe but powerful, and present. But it is the wealth of sweet, ripe, fresh fruits that you notice the most as they coat and linger on your palate. Give this a bit more time in the cellar before pulling a cork, allowing the wine to soften, fill out and develop more secondary nuances. Drink from 2028-2055.

The 2010 Léoville-Poyferré takes the 2009 and ups the ante with brilliantly defined, intense black fruit. Perhaps it is just a little more "serious" compared to the previous vintage, but is finely chiseled and displaying more mineralité. The palate has mellowed since I last tasted it, developing more rondeur and a more caressing texture. Extremely pure in style, this fans out wonderful, fills the mouth and lingers for a minute. One of the highlights of Didier Cuvelier’s career, this has a long future ahead. "LP" just does not get better than this. Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Leoville-Poyferre 2010 dares to challenge Jean-Hubert Delon! It has a wonderful bouquet with vibrant blackcurrant, raspberry and warm gravel scents - very well defined and very focused, the oak seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with a very pure opening, a fine line of acidity, a cashmere texture and a long silky smooth finish that is very seductive and feminine. There is a lot of panache here - utterly seductive.

(96+ points) The 2010 Leoville Poyferré is a typical wine from this chateau. Deep, dark, tar and rubber like – very heavy and thick This is a wine that just smells of Leoville Poyferré. There is lots of sweet and deep cassis-like fruit and a wonderful nose of dark rubber-like components and liquorish. It all blends together in a very nice and intriguing way. It still has a few years to go before maturity, it does come from the powerful 2010 vintage after all, but the future looks bright indeed. - Ivar Bjurner

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Léoville Poyferré opens with notes of sautéed herbs and pencil shavings on the nose, giving way to scents of redcurrant jelly, baked plums and cedar chest plus a waft of cassis. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has pleasant energy and well-played, lightly chewy tannins with compelling freshness on the finish.- LPB

Features a coating of warm cocoa, with notes of solid currant paste, steeped fig and blackberry fruit. The pastis- and graphite-filled finish pumps along, revealing a well-embedded structure that should soften in the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030. – JM
