Mineral and stone and steel. Dried flowers. Lots of dried fruits such as peaches. Apricot. So much intense fruit character. Wild flavors and complexity. A real pastry shop in the glass here. Full but not heavy. Wonderful...

Vinous, August 2020

The 2010 Dom Pérignon is hard to get a read on today. I have tasted it four times over the last few months, and my feeling is that it is still not totally put together. Apricot, pastry, chamomile, mint and light tropical...

As always, a very correct Champagne. It has nice length and valid reasons for being drunk whenever one feels the inclination to do so. There is depth albeit limited in scope. Racy and crisp. Nothing jarring but also...

Possibly the world’s most recognized and iconic Champagne, Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon is always a vintage-dated wine comprised of the classic varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Elegant and graceful with excellent aging potential, it is produced only in those harvest years that the Chef de Cave declares to be of exceptional quality.

Dom. Pierre Perignon, revered as the spiritual “Father of Champagne”, was a 17th century Benedictine Monk and cellar master at Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers. He had a singular mission: to create the best wine in the world. To that mission, he dedicated 47 years of his life to invent and perfect the techniques to create a wine whose reputation knows no equal. His life-long work acquired a reputation for excellence which spread rapidly throughout the region, including the favor of the Royal Court during the reign of King Louis XIV.

Today, Richard Geoffroy, Chef de Cave and Creator of Dom Perignon Vintages, perpetuates the spirit of Dom. Pierre Perignon. The wine is produced by Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the largest luxury brand group in the world.

The 2010 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon is a Champagne blend from the renowned Champagne region in France. This vintage, produced by Moet Chandon, has been widely reviewed by professionals, garnering notable praise for its complexity and elegance.

Decanter awarded the 2010 Dom Perignon a score of 93, describing it as having a "soft gold" color with "gentle green luminescence." The fine bead and reassuring nose are indicative of classic Dom Perignon, showcasing "citric fruit, slate, sourdough, soft spice" along with subtle tropical notes. The palate is described as having great subtlety, featuring flavors like "nectarines and pineapple, maybe a hint of crystallized grapefruit," and a finish with a "gentle phenolic kick of salinity." This vintage is expected to drink well from 2020 to 2030.

James Suckling gave this vintage an excellent review, scoring it 98 points. He remarked on its "mineral and stone and steel" notes, as well as "dried flowers" and "lots of dried fruits such as peaches and apricot." Suckling highlighted its "intense fruit character" and "wild flavors and complexity," likening it to "a real pastry shop in the glass." He described it as "full but not heavy" with "wonderful flavors" and suggested that it can be enjoyed now or held for future enjoyment.

Vinous also rated it at 93, noting that the 2010 Dom Perignon is challenging to assess fully at this stage. The tasting notes include "apricot, pastry, chamomile, mint and light tropical notes," reflecting the hot vintage and rapid ripening phase. The review details the challenging growing season, marked by cold, dry conditions early on, followed by heat and heavy rains in mid-August that led to botrytis outbreaks. Despite these challenges, the wine maintains high sugars and acidities, making it an intriguing vintage to watch over time.

Wine Spectator gave it a high score of 96, praising its "graceful" nature and "fragrant notes of toasted brioche and grilled nut." On the palate, it transitions to a richer profile with "tangerine, candied ginger, toasted saffron, and lime blossom." The review highlights the fine mousse that "caresses the palate through to the lasting finish," and recommends drinking it now through 2035.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate scored it 92, calling it a "charming, demonstrative vintage." The wine bursts with "notes of mandarin, golden orchard fruit, toasted bread, almonds, and petrol." It is described as "medium to full-bodied, rabid and ample," with a fleshy core of fruit and an open-knit style.

Finally, Wine Enthusiast also rated it highly at 96, noting its "richness to perfection." The review points out floral aromas leading to a wine with "weight and density," balanced by ripe fruits that reveal "nuttiness, toast, and a tight salinity at the end." It is suggested to drink through 2028.

Overall, the 2010 Dom Perignon is a well-regarded vintage, characterized by its complexity, elegance, and potential for aging, with several reviewers highlighting its excellent balance and rich flavor profile.
