Pure perfection, the 2010 Château Pavie has that rare mix of richness and elegance that's so hard to find yet seems to emerge from this address with ease. Incredible darker berry fruits, white truffle, crushed stone, sappy flowers, and smoky, tobacco-like nuances all define the aromatics, and it's full-bodied, with a focused, yet rich, intense mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. It’s another 2010 that’s just now at the early stages of its prime drinking window and should cruise in cold cellars over the coming three decades. Drink 2025-2055.

Opaque garnet-black in color, the 2010 wows as it erupts from the glass with explosive notes of plum preserves, baked cherries, and creme de cassis leading to hints of sandalwood, tree bark, menthol, and Chinese five spice. The full-bodied palate is laden with black fruit preserves and exotic spices supported by ripe, rounded tannins and amazing tension, with lingering anise and mineral notes on the incredibly long finish. This is accomplished and enjoyable, starting to come into its own at ten years old, and very much infused with the limestone impact of its soils. One of my favourite Pavies that scrapes along the palate in that way that just weakens my knees. A style of vintage that suits this property, where the acidity provides a natural break but doesn't detract from the fruit and concentration. It is exerting its power gently and imperceptibly, turning the screw until the tannins are barring your way at the close of play. Brilliant stuff.

Standout quality in an exceptional vintage for Bordeaux, still an absolute baby. Expect a slab of liquorice and chocolate, with an expertly-judged slash of acidity that adds tension and cuts through the opulence of the black cherry, cassis, cigar box, liquorice and kirsch. Intense smoke emerges as it opens, coiled and ready to take it further over the next decade. It's a big wine, not taking any prisoners even at 15 years old, but it is sculpted, chiselled, mouthwatering, and will continue to age for decades - I suggest putting this back in the cellar for now. 80% new oak, brought down from 100% as of the 2006 vintage. This is developing in all the right ways. Full-bodied, rich, opulent, and voluptuous, as well as fresh, mineralistic, long, complex, and palate-staining, the wine offers incredible levels of intensity along with depth, weight, and energy. On the dark side of the red berry spectrum, the tannins are refined and the finish has a lot of stick-to-it resilience, as it stays with you for at least 50 seconds. 70% merlot 20% cabernet franc 10% cabernet sauvignon. Aged in 80% new French oak and 20% one-year-old barrels. Produced from a 37 Hectare mid-hillside vineyard from vines that average 45 years of age. The nose is reminiscent of a fresh raspberry pie also revealing chocolate coffee and mineral notes. Seamless structure and well-defined minerality are the hallmarks of this wine and this vintage stays true to form. Full bodied and concentrated supple tannins lead to a tremendous silky texture. Give this a few years to come together fully and begin drinking around 2018.

A brick house, still rather tight, with loads of apple wood and juniper flavors holding the core of red currant, blackberry and bitter plum fruit in check. Offers ample grip through the finish, with a mouthwatering chalk, graphite and tobacco spine. A huge wine that hasn't budged and probably won't for some time.--Non-blind Pavie vertical (March 2017). The Chateau Pavie 2010 is a blend of 70% Merlot 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon cropped at 28hl/ha. There is just a slight touch of over-ripeness on the fig tinged nose. Again its is very dense and opulent. The palate is incredibly powerful with mouth-coating dry tannins good acidity and attractive purity coming through on the finish. Very difficult to taste now perhaps due to the late malolactics an impenetrable Pavie that will demand serious ageing. Drink 2022-
