Riserva Madonna del Piano, hails from one of the first and best single-vineyard sites in Montalcino, with production dating back to 1977. Made only in the best vintages and from the oldest vines on the property, in 1994 Valdicava was granted the right to list the Madonna del Piano vineyard designation on the label. The 19.5 hectare single vineyard is divided into four parts: old vines, Pievecchina, Pratea and Sferracavallo. Owner Vincenzo Abbruzzese harvests the vines from each part of the vineyard at different times and makes the wines separately before blending them together. The wine is then aged about two years in large old casks and another two years in bottle.

The 2010 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is a notable offering from the esteemed Valdicava winery in Tuscany, Italy. This wine is crafted from the Sangiovese Grosso varietal and boasts a substantial 14.5% alcohol content. It is a red wine sealed with a traditional cork closure.

This vintage has garnered significant attention from wine critics, earning high praise across the board. Wine Spectator awarded it an impressive 97 points, describing it as "sumptuous, offering ripe aromas of plum, cherry, spice, earth, iron, and tobacco." The review highlighted the wine’s "velvety in texture and elegant" nature, noting that it has "an ironclad structure underneath." The reviewer also emphasized its longevity, suggesting it would be best enjoyed from 2023 through 2043.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave this wine a respectable 95+ rating. Monica Larner of the publication described it as "a big wine with lofty ambitions and an impactful presentation." She noted its "profound sense of elegance and poise," with berry notes that seamlessly blend into "spice, licorice, and tar." Larner also pointed out the wine's "tight texture, its sheer power, and the silky nature of the tannins," predicting a long aging potential.

James Suckling, however, offered the highest accolades, bestowing a perfect score of 100 points. He praised the wine for its "superb finesse and depth," calling it "subtle and understated yet powerful and long." Suckling was particularly impressed with the "tannin intensity," likening it to a "massive wave" and commending its "endless" length.
