There is beauty here and the transparency is inspiring with dark berry, floral and mineral character. Full body and ultra-fine tannins. A glorious wine. A wine that will age for decades and beautiful now.

Fortunately the temperatures dropped by July, but the harvest was 15-20 days earlier than in 2010. It's definitely a teenager, with a youthful, polished, vivid colour. There's an attractive black fruit and spice character on the nose which follows on to the palate, showing alluring intensity with all the expected fruit. This richness is balanced out by a mineral character and some bitter chocolate notes. Overall it's a powerful wine, and one that needs time to settle. Definitely worth returning to in a few years. Drinking Window 2020 - 2040.

The varietal breakdown is 91% Tempranillo and 9% Graciano, and it fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured for 16 months in French barriques, 50/50 new and second use. This is the ripest of the four vintages I tasted next to each other, with abundant notes of black cherries, plums and dark spice. The palate reveals abundant, slightly dusty tannins that give it a faintly powdery texture. It needs powerful food. - Luis Gutiérrez
