Wine Enthusiast, May 2012

A wine that has density structure and firm tannins with touches of wood. At this stage it is solid and impressive; and the tannins draw the great fresh fruit into the heart of the wine. - R.V.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2014

The opaque blue/purple-colored 2011 Palmer reveals a stunning bouquet of licorice, truffles, camphor, spring flowers, black raspberries and black currants. One of the superstars of the vintage, this brilliant 2011...

jamessuckling.com, January 2014

A wine with currants and mineral character on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, with silky, polished tannins and a long finish. Very tight and refined now. Tannic. Palmer only made 20 hectoliters of wine a hectare...

Wine Spectator, April 2012

Shows an ample core of kirsch and bright cherry fruit that's very expressive with flecks of white pepper violet and tobacco. The racy acidity is well-embedded and this has solid length with a velvety edge in reserve that...

janeanson.com, December 2021

Touches of raspberry and tobacco leaf straight off the first nose. This could be opened now with a good few hours in a carafe, as the tannins are fine-boned and riven through with salinity and juice. An elegant...

The 2011 Palmer has a ripe sweet bouquet of black cherries blueberry a touch of iodine and crushed violets flamboyant as usual. There is a hint of cough candy that develops with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a...

Vinous, April 2022

The 2011 Palmer has a delineated, focused, razor-sharp bouquet with blackberry and bilberry scents, demonstrated more mineralité than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, moderate depth...

Finesse and elegance, typical of the great wines of Margaux, are the trademarks of Chateau Palmer. The unusual combination of grape varieties for a classified Left Bank wine–as much Merlot as Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Petit Verdot–gives Chateau Palmer a bouquet of extraordinary complexity, with fruit, flowers, and spice wrapped in a fleshy and generous structure. The subtle balance between aromatic richness and powerful, yet always restrained, tannins makes Palmer charming even when very young.

The grapes are fermented separately by variety and plot in 54 conical, stainless steel vats. The wine then ages 18 to 21 months in French oak barrels, less than 50% new.
