Dark at its core, vivid at the edge, this wine’s color reflects its powerful compression of flavor. Typically, Les Granges is Baudry’s most accessible Chinon, from a site near the river planted on gravel and sand. In 2011, its layers of black cherry fruit and equally dark tannins gain clarity and detail as air brings out scents of tobacco and cherry leaf. Rustic scents of a barnyard add complexity without diminishing the clean line of the fruit, which is what lasts in the end. A by-the-case buy from Chinon, this will continue to improve over the next several years in bottle.
