60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot planted on 40 hectares of gravelly clay subsoil. Aged for 15-18 months in 50% new oak barrels. Sylvain Garcin Cathiard has owned Haut-Bergey since 1991 and has really elevated the quality giving it the same treatment used at the family's other chateaux. Very chocolaty and rich on the nose and the palate this has a nice soft entry with baking spice flavor in the mid-palate providing some complexity to accompany black cherry flavors. Fine tannins give this admirable length. Tasted twice. Enjoy 2014-2020.

This bounces along pleasantly, with a briary hint along the edges and vivid damson plum, anise and blackberry notes at the core. A floral accent kicks in on the finish for added lift. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2020. 10,000 cases made. –JM

The Garcin family has invested heavily in both money and time to resurrect a number of their estates, including Haut-Bergey (as well as Branon, Clos l’Eglise and Barde-Haut). The 2011 Haut-Bergey exhibits notes of charcoal embers, tobacco leaf, black currants, cherries, spice and earth. Made from a high dosage of Merlot combined with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it should age nicely for 10-15 years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
