Showing a deep crimson core, this opens with the more savory side of Cabernet replete with dried herbs, menthol and fresh cut tobacco, underscored by sweeter notes of black cherry, cola and floral notes. Fresh and elegant on entry, there are dark red fruits on the palate that meld with notes of baker’s chocolate and savory herbs. Much like the Napa Cabs of years past, this is a tightly coiled and structured Cabernet that will unfold beautifully with some extra years of cellaring. Hold for 3 years to let the tannins settle and the inner Cabernet perfume to emerge. A sleeper in a greatly overlooked vintage, this has a good 10+ years of evolution ahead of it.

The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum is at its sweet spot for drinking, with a balance of red cherry and currant fruit with mature notes of graphite, dried meats, mushroom and cedar. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc from the Oakville, Mt. Veeder and Diamond Mountain appellations, it has a medium weight and integrated tannins, and is just beginning to open to notes of olive and earth on the finish.
