The 2011 Rieussec has a lifted patisserie, almond-scented bouquet, touches of wild peach coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a very unctuous entry, powerful and intense, almost heady in style with a persistent finish that coats the mouth. What a fabulous Sauternes. Intense, with ginger, yellow apple chutney, dried pineapple and papaya flavors coursing through a finish that brims with singed almond and lemon chiffon flavors. This retains a touch of youthful rawness, featuring a bitter orange note that’s yet to be absorbed. No need to rush. Best from 2018 through 2040. From France. — J.M.

84% semillon 12% sauvignon blanc 4% muscadelle. Barrel fermented then aged in 24% new oak. Vines are planted on mixed gravel and limestone soils. Vibrant yellow-green color. The nose has complex aromas of mango vanilla bean and toasted coconut along with brighter notes of Meyer lemon. This has broad rich texture with layer upon layer of well-delineated and refined fruit nice ginger spice on the finish and vibrant acidity. This will have a long and generous life ahead of it. Drink over the next 20+ years.

The 2011 Rieussec, a blend of 95% Semillon, 2% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle is an absolute dream. There is wonderful precision and mineralité on the nose, the new oak more integrated than a few months ago. The palate is beautifully balanced with clear honey, brioche and pralines, a sensual Rieussec that is utterly charming, hints of nougat and almond lingering on the long finish. Gorgeous! Layers of complex botrytis give this wine an immensely aromatic character. It is sumptuous and generous, ripe and full-bodied. The essential acidity comes through the dry structure of botrytis and sweet honey. The fruit is only just beginning to show and the wine is obviously very young. Drink from 2022.

Fat, powerful, intense and concentrated with sweet, lush, honey coated tropical fruits, apricot and peach, complicated by vanilla and spice notes is primary, yet already delicious. Tasted from cask. With a muted nose, this is distinctly oaky now. Good attack, sleek and creamy, it may not be nuanced now but it has precision and drive, and complex flavours of ripe citrus and apricots. Very long, one with a lengthy future ahead of it.
