There is enough reduction present to knock down the expressiveness of what appears to be a very ripe nose of apple and floral aromas. The broad-shouldered flavors are impressively rich, full-bodied and well-detailed with a taut muscularity on the highly persistent and driving finish that is blessed with so much dry extract that is seems almost chewy. Despite the imposing size and weight of this classically styled effort the balance is impeccable and the length is genuinely stunning.

The 2012 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, comes from 2.4 hectares of vines located close to the top of the top of the hill, has a crisp, stony bouquet with apple blossom and lime flower, gently unfurling in the glass but needing a little more vigor. The palate is well-balanced with a slightly viscous opening, notes of tangerine and grapefruit, later a welcome twist of bitter lemon lending energy on the finish. Drink now-2028. - Neal Martin

This sneaks up on you, starting with light butter and vanilla notes around the core of peach, grapefruit and spice flavors. Builds in intensity to a long, butterscotch-tinged finish. Creamy texture. Best from 2016 through 2027. – BS

Very cold sample so perhaps less expressive than it might be. Still has intense citrus core clothed in mealy creaminess. Terrific freshness and an arrow of fresh citrus through a gently creamy texture. Very good. Long and with an attractive delicate grip on the finish. Does not have huge concentration in the middle but is finely balanced. 17.5/20 (JH)
