The Fontenys bottling can often be the most closed and structurally-defined wine out of the blocks at Domaine Roty, but the inherent elegance of the 2012 vintage has worked its charms on this wine as well and it is really very refined already. The deep and pure nose wafts from the glass in a lovely blend of black cherries, black plums, grilled meats, bitter chocolate, dark soil tones, a touch of fresh nutmeg, new oak and a topnote of woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very elegant on the attack, with plenty of power in reserve at the sappy core, fine-grained tannins and excellent length and grip on the focused and very promising finish. This could well be the finest young vintage of Fontenys I have ever tasted chez Roty!
