I did not taste the Capita old vine cuvée on this visit (and cannot remember if the yields were sufficient to produce it this year, or if the old vine production was rolled into either this wine or the straight Gevrey in 2012), but in any case, the 2012 Ostrea is really a superb bottle in the making. The bouquet shows more depth and sappiness than the straight villages, as it jumps from the glass in a mix of black cherries, red plums, cocoa, dark soil tones, gamebirds, a touch of nutskin, gentle new wood hints and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and marvelously complex out of the blocks, with a very sappy core, fine-grained tannins and excellent soil drive and grip on the very long and classy finish. I love this wine this year!
