Wine Enthusiast, October 2021

The great 2012 vintage shows well in this rich, full Champagne. Dominated as usual by Pinot Noir, the wine is powerfully ripe and impressively full of white fruits and tight minerality. Ready to drink from 2022, it is...

jamessuckling.com, March 2021

Intense aromas of strawberry and subtle apple with pie crust and some ash and stone. An almost smoky undertone to the aromas. Full-bodied and very layered with ultra fine tannins that give it a rough-cut, velvety texture...

Wine Spectator, June 2021

Sleek, with racy acidity, this tightly-meshed version nonetheless offers a lovely range of flavors, with ripe black cherry and currant fruit and accents of pomegranate, candied kumquat and raw almond. Finely detailed...

Decanter, October 2024

Just as 2004 Champagnes often seem to eclipse 2002 today, some wonder whether 2013 will do the same to the highly rated 2012. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Sir Winston Churchill, though, where 2012’s strengths...

Vinous, November 2021

Pol Roger"s flagship Brut Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is fabulous in 2012. Rich, open-knit and seductive, the 2012 will drink well right out of the gate, although it certainly has the pedigree to age well for decades...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2023

Richer and fleshier than the 2013, the 2012 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill offers up aromas of ripe citrus and orchard fruits mingled with buttered toast, hazelnuts and confit peach. Full-bodied, layered and gourmand, with...

Champagne Pol Roger created their Prestige Cuvee in homage to Sir Winston Churchill, mindful of the qualities that he sought in his champagne : robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity. The exact blend is a closely guarded family secret but it is undeniable that the composition would meet with the approval of the man to whom it is dedicated.

Pinot Noir predominates, providing structure, breadth and robustness whilst Chardonnay contributes elegance, finesse and subtlety. Composed exclusively of grapes sourced from Grands Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards, which were already under vine during Churchill's lifetime, Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill is only made in the very best vintages and is always released later than the other vintage-dated Champagnes from Pol Roger, marking Churchill's appreciation for older wines.

The 2012 Pol Roger Winston Churchill Champagne is a remarkable wine that showcases the elegance and complexity associated with its esteemed producer. This vintage, primarily composed of Pinot Noir with Chardonnay, is notable for its full-bodied style and luxurious character, scoring highly across the board from professional reviewers.

James Suckling awarded it an impressive 98 points, highlighting its "intense aromas of strawberry and subtle apple" with a "smoky undertone." He praised its "full-bodied and very layered" nature, accentuated by "ultra-fine tannins" and a "velvety texture." He notes it is "delicious and luxurious to drink now," with potential for further aging.

Wine Enthusiast was equally enthusiastic, scoring it 99 points. Roger Voss remarked on the wine's "powerfully ripe and impressively full" profile, pointing out its dominance by Pinot Noir and tight minerality. He suggested it is "worthy of aging" and drinkable even in a decade.

Wine Spectator also offered high praise, scoring it 97 points. The review described it as "sleek, with racy acidity," while providing a "lovely range of flavors," including "ripe black cherry and currant fruit" with accents of "pomegranate, candied kumquat, and raw almond." It is noted for its "silk-like texture" and "lasting finish."

Decanter and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate both scored it 95 points. Decanter emphasized its "decorous and persistent bead" and "aromatic orchard fruit, yeast, spice, and crystallized lemon" qualities. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate appreciated its "richer and fleshier" nature compared to the 2013 vintage, with a "harmonious and precise" profile.

Overall, the 2012 Pol Roger Winston Churchill is a wine of exceptional quality, well-received by critics, offering complexity, richness, and the potential for further development.
