Wine Enthusiast, March 2016

This is an impressive wine that transcends the problems of the vintage. It has rich fruit that is sustained by the tannic structure that rests on a bed of fresh blackberry fruits cut with fresh acidity. The wine will...

Decanter, February 2023

More aromatic than most, with lush, smoky, leafy aromas, suggesting it's just beginning its evolution. Concentrated and velvety, it displays fine balance and no overt extraction, nor is the ageing in 100% new oak evident...

jamessuckling.com, February 2016

This is a wonderful bottle for the vintage with currant, violet, mushroom and forest fruit character yet always subtle. Full body, tight and silky. A beautiful finish. All in finesse. Sweet fruit on the finish. Mostly...

janeanson.com, February 2022

Has character and lift, and an attractive kick of rosemary and turmeric spice. Silky black fruits also, old school but charming, ready to drink but no rush - lovers of Calon Ségur will find plenty to enjoy here, and it's...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2016

The 2013 Calon Segur is a Saint Estèphe that should not be ignored. It has developed an attractive bouquet with blackberry, graphite and a hint of vanilla in the background. No, it is not an intense bouquet, yet winemaker...

The Grand Vin of Calon Segur is the mirror image of its terroir, revealing both lovely softness and amazing intensity. The vines, 8,000 per hectare, are planted on deep gravel that lies atop clay. 54% of the vines are Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

The manual harvest is followed by both shake-table and hand-sorting. Fermentation is in temperature-controlled conical stainless-steel tanks with maceration for 18 to 21 days. The wine ages 18 to 20 months in 30% new French oak barrels and are fined with egg whites.
