Dark purple at the core with a light ruby rim. This classic Rhone blend of 50% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 20% Carignan and 10% Mourvèdre exhibits aromas of cassis, black cherry, clove and a hint of wild herbs. Big and powerful on the palate, the dark fruit is supported by fine-grained tannins that are already nicely integrated and add tremendous length to the finish. This is already showing nicely with some air, and should drink well for another 15+ years.

94+ Blackberry, currants, toasted spice, graphite and hints of licorice all soar from the glass of Herve's classic 2013 Cptes du Roussillon Villages le Clos des Fees. Made from 50% Syrah, 20% each of Carignan and Grenache and the balance Mourvèdre, it offers full-bodied richness, good concentration and the more focused, elegant, pure style of the vintage. It's a top-notch effort that will improve with short term cellaring and keep for a decade. - Jeb Dunnuck
