jamessuckling.com, March 2022

This has aromas of black fruit, olives, wet earth, dried lavender, cloves and bark. Bitter chocolate and walnuts, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, tight-grained tannins. Structured, with great freshness and...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2022

97+ The 2014 Latour is one of the very finest wines of a vintage that favored the northern Médoc. Mingling aromas of wild berries and cassis with hints of cigar wrapper, loamy soil, black truffles and classy new oak, it’s...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2018

The tannins in this fine vintage of Latour are still enormous, dominating the black currant fruit. It has spice, tannins, impressive fruit and a pure, cool character. To be released in the mid-2020s, the wine is likely to...

Wine Spectator, March 2017

This shows terrific cut and drive from the start, with mouthwatering acidity and a chiseled graphite note leading the way, backed by a core of pure cassis and blackberry preserves. Licorice snap and sweet tobacco details...

Decanter, November 2021

Reddish purple rim. Expressive on the nose; cocoa powder, truffle, soft spices, blackcurrant pastilles, black cherries and mint - the best Cabernet aromatics. Great delicacy here, this is so poised and elegant, a touch of...

janeanson.com, February 2024

Gunsmoke, grilled cassis, slate, liqourice bud, lavender, espresso, muscular and still very young, plenty of coiled power here, autumnal fruit that is ripe but not over-exuberant. A ton of appellation typicity, Latour...

jebdunnuck.com, August 2022

96+ The 2014 Château Latour is still a baby and relatively closed and backward, offering darker, meaty black fruits, tobacco, truffly earth, and graphite on the nose. It's much more dense and structured than I would have...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, July 2022

Dark ruby in color, the wine is still youthful and on the fruit side. With coaxing, you find herbs, tobacco, cigar box and red fruits. Medium/full-bodied, this is a classic, slightly austere, cool style of Latour. There...

Vinous, March 2024

The 2014 Latour is a vintage that I have enjoyed a few times. Now at ten years old, it has a very intense and, for Latour, quite an opulent bouquet that is stylistically more akin to Mouton than Lafite-Rothschild: cigar...

The Wine Independent, March 2024

Deep garnet-brick in color, the 2014 Latour is a tad broody and closed to start, slowly unfurling to reveal notes of blackcurrant jelly, menthol, cedar chest, and cumin seed followed by hints of dried lavender and fertile...

Chateau Latour, one of Bordeaux’s oldest and most famous wine producers, is a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It’s located in Pauillac near the border with Saint-Julien.

Vines have existed on the property since the 14th century, but Chateau Latour first began producing wines of great quality in the early eighteenth century. The estate gradually came to specialize in wine production, with 38 hectares of vines in 1759 and 47 hectares in 1794.

The vineyard currently has 78 hectares in production. The grapes from the 47 hectares surrounding the chateau, known as “L’Enclos”, are used in the production of the Grand Vin. The 30 hectares outside of the Enclos are used for the Forts de Latour and the Pauillac wines. The estate is planted with about 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot on gravelly hilltops and clay subsoil.

The wines of Chateau Latour need time to mature, generally at least ten or fifteen years, before they can be drunk. It is only then that the full complexity of the bouquet is expressed and the palate becomes sufficiently well integrated to be enjoyable and harmonious.

The 2014 Chateau Latour is an exceptional Bordeaux Blend that showcases the elegance and complexity of the Pauillac region in Bordeaux, France. With a deep ruby color that hints at its youthfulness, this wine exudes a sense of refinement and sophistication from the moment it is poured into the glass.

On the nose, the wine reveals a captivating bouquet of herbs, tobacco, cigar box, and red fruits. It is a harmonious blend of aromas that entices the senses and invites further exploration. With each sip, the wine unfolds on the palate, offering a medium to full-bodied experience that is both classic and slightly austere.

The concentration of fruit in this wine is remarkable, but it is the firm tannins that give it a distinctive edge. This is a wine that demands patience and time to fully mature and reveal its true potential. For those who appreciate classic styles, this is a wine that will undoubtedly reward their patience.

According to renowned wine critic Jeff Leve, this wine should be enjoyed between 2030 and 2060, allowing for the tannins to soften and the flavors to fully develop. Similarly, Jeb Dunnuck suggests that another 7-8 years of bottle age will allow this wine to reach its peak, with over three decades of longevity.

The blend of this vintage is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot also contributing to its complexity. The alcohol content is 13.0%, which is in line with the balanced and refined nature of the wine.

Overall, the 2014 Chateau Latour is a wine that captures the essence of its terroir and vintage. It is a wine that embodies finesse and grace, with a linear and lithe construction that sets it apart. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine is a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of Chateau Latour.
