The 2014 Pruliers is another wine chez Gouges that really has benefited from the inherent elegance of the vintage, as this wine will be equally refined and polished at its apogee. The bouquet is a young and complex mix of sweet dark berries, currant leaf, dark soil tones, woodsmoke, incipient notes of venison, espresso and just a bit of new oak in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure, with a rock solid core of fruit, outstanding focus and grip and excellent backend energy on the poised and ripely tannic finish. Again, the tannins seems effortlessly seamless here in 2014. Great juice.

A subtle application of wood frames the spicy red and dark berry fruit that is liberally laced by notes of earth and game. I very much like the intensity and focused power of the concentrated medium weight flavors that display moderate rusticity and a touch of austerity on the impressively complex and persistent finale. Patience required.

The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has an attractive nose with earthy red fruit, dried leaves, a touch of espresso and ash emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, quite austere on the entry, but there is more flesh that develops towards the finish. I feel this needs more time. -- Neal Martin

(90+ points) Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Henri Gouges' 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Pruliers has quite a forward bouquet with bold red cherries, raspberry and light chocolaty scents that clearly need more time in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit and quite juicy tannin that lend this an appealing fatness in the mouth, although it does not deliver the articulacy of some of the other Nuits-Saint-Georges that I have encountered from this vintage. This showed better out of barrel, but I suspect it will achieve a higher grade with 3-4 more years of bottle age. Tasted September 2017.-NM
