Though quite reserved there is a lovely freshness, indeed even elegance to the cool, pure and layered nose of earthy and spice red currant, humus and floral scents. The big, bold and muscular broad-shouldered flavors also possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract that helps to buffer the very firm tannins before terminating in a backward and austere but gorgeously long, balanced and complex finish. This distinctly old school and overtly powerful effort is once again pointless to buy unless you have the express intention of cellaring it for at least 10 to 12 years.

The 2014 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru was deeply impressive when I tasted it from barrel and now in bottle, it is fulfilling my expectations. It demonstrated superb mineralité and tension on the nose. Good focus and detail with plenty of red and black fruit. The palate is grainy on the entry. I love the backbone and that infectious sense of nervous energy in situ, the finish slightly austere but tensile. This showing bodes well for the future. This is excellent!
