Decanter, April 2024

Fragrant and deeply herbal, a mixture of fresh and savoury. Clean and clear, immediately quite zingy with acidity to the fore and while this doesn't get any weightier, and is definitely not plush, it continues the same...

jamessuckling.com, February 2017

The aromas of stones, oyster shell, blackcurrants and mushrooms are very intense. Full-bodied, dense and powerful with lots of blackberries. Great finish. Super energy and depth. Try in 2022. Fascinating.

janeanson.com, February 2024

Fine swirls of gunsmoke on the first nose, totally enticing, very much in control, with mouthwatering salinity, fine tannic structure that initially masks the build up of power and concentration, with an expansion through...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2017

This is a major wine. It has enormous tension, structure and a core of dark tannins. Amid all this, the wine is also packed with fruit and concentrated blackberry and black-plum flavors. It will age slowly and steadily...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, July 2017

Dark fruits, Cuban cigar wrapper, spice, cedar and wet forest scents open the wine. Elegant, fresh and sweet, the wine has put on weight during its aging time. The tannins are silky, the wine is fresh, pure and clean. The...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2017

The 2014 Lafite-Rothschild, tasted with head winemaker Eric Kohler, has retained that very opulent and outgoing bouquet that dare I say actually reminded me of Mouton-Rothschild. There are layers of blackberry and...

Wine Spectator, March 2017

Reserved for now, but the core of cassis, bitter plum and raspberry coulis flavors is pure and energetic, while extra black tea, iron and singed alder notes fill in steadily through the finish. This has a very focused...

The Wine Independent, March 2024

Deep garnet-brick in color, the 2014 Lafite Rothschild seems a little tired and tobaccoy, with a core of cassis, baked plums, and leather followed by hints of anise and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is chewy , with...

Vinous, March 2024

The 2014 Lafite-Rothschild has a typically refined nose at first, though I notice that it gains more richness after five minutes and replicates the menthol scents that I noticed in the previous bottle four years ago. The...

This famous First Growth is often described as perfumed, elegant and delicate, and one of the finest wines in Bordeaux. According to Baron Eric de Rothschild, Chateau Lafite has a beautiful, generous, and kindly soul that turns bare earth into heaven. The blend for this grand vin varies from vintage to vintage, but is typically 80-95% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5-20% Merlot, with the balance from Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The 2014 Lafite-Rothschild is a Bordeaux blend from the Pauillac sub-region in Bordeaux, France. This red wine, produced by the prestigious Lafite-Rothschild, boasts an alcohol content of 12.5%.

Wine Enthusiast awarded this wine an impressive 97 points, praising it as "a major wine" with "enormous tension, structure and a core of dark tannins." The review highlighted its "concentrated blackberry and black-plum flavors" and noted that it "will age slowly and steadily with its enormous structure and concentration." Reviewer Roger Voss suggested drinking this wine from 2027.

James Suckling gave the 2014 Lafite-Rothschild an even higher score of 98 points, describing the aromas as "intense" with notes of "stones, oyster shell, blackcurrants and mushrooms." He remarked on its "full-bodied, dense and powerful" character and commended its "great finish" and "super energy and depth." Suckling recommended trying this wine from 2022.

Wine Spectator provided a 95-point review, acknowledging the wine's reserved nature but also noting its "pure and energetic" core of "cassis, bitter plum and raspberry coulis flavors." The review mentioned additional notes of "black tea, iron and singed alder" that fill in steadily through the finish, suggesting a "focused, streamlined feel overall" with "serious depth for the cellar." This wine is best from 2020 through 2035.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, also scoring it 95 points, described the wine as "opulent and outgoing," with layers of "blackberry and boysenberry fruit" and a hint of "juniper berry." It praised its "crisp tannin" and "very focused and quite linear" palate, with black fruit flavors laced with "cedar and tobacco."

Vinous and The Wine Independent both rated the wine 92 points. Vinous noted its "refined nose" and "medium-bodied" palate with "rounded tannins" and "white pepper and fennel" infusing the red fruit. However, it mentioned the wine felt "aloof" and perhaps had "something up its sleeve." The Wine Independent found the wine to be "a little tired and tobaccoy," with a "medium-bodied palate" and "evolving black fruit" leading to a "savory finish."

Decanter's review awarded 95 points, commending its "floral nose" and "understated" character compared to Mouton. The review highlighted its "fine tannins" and "wild violet lift" over a "firm, textured depth of fruit," calling it "perfect harmony."

Jeff Leve from TheWineCellarInsider.com gave a 96-point rating, noting its "dark fruits, Cuban cigar wrapper, spice, cedar and wet forest scents." He described the wine as "elegant, fresh and sweet," with "silky tannins" and a finish that has "energy, length and purity."

Finally, Jane Anson scored the wine 97 points, appreciating its "fine swirls of gunsmoke" and "mouthwatering salinity." She noted its "fine tannic structure" and the build-up of "power and concentration," predicting it will develop over the next decade and hold on for another two or three.

Overall, the 2014 Lafite-Rothschild is celebrated for its structure, depth, and aging potential, making it a standout choice for collectors and connoisseurs.
