This Mondavi release is opaque purple in the glass and comes alive with a nose of blackberry syrup, crushed violets, currants at the forefront with lingering tones of anise, black tea and dry parched earth in the background. All these elements transition smoothly to the palate, where they combine to convey a wine that is balanced and elegant. With restrained tannins and soft acidity, BDX delivers a long, enjoyable finish. This wine would pair wonderfully with anything coming off your grill. While it’s already drinking nicely right now, it will also mature nicely for another 8-10 years.
