Solaia is a 50 acre (20 hectare), southwest-exposed vineyard of the Tignanello estate situated between 1150 and 1320 feet (350-400 meters) above sea level on stony soils consisting of calcareous clays and limestone rock. The Marchesi Antinori produced this wine for the first time in the 1978 vintage with a blend consisting of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, repeating the initial production in 1979. In the following vintages, 20% Sangiovese became part of the blend and adjustments to the ratio of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were made until the current composition of the blend was defined. Solaia is produced only in top vintages and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, or 1992.

The 2015 Antinori Solaia IGT is a proprietary red blend hailing from Tuscany, Italy. This wine, produced by the esteemed Antinori winery, showcases a composition primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Franc. It has garnered significant acclaim from various professional reviewers, reflecting its exceptional quality and potential for aging.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded the 2015 Solaia a perfect score of 100 points, describing it as "liquid sunshine." Monica Larner of the publication highlighted the wine's "magical infinity" and "continuous loop of compatibilities" with the 2015 vintage, noting the warm Tuscan sunshine that permeates the wine, bringing opulence and intensity. Larner praised its bouquet of dark fruit, spice, and sweet tobacco, along with its intense yet fresh mouthfeel.

James Suckling also gave the wine a perfect score of 100 points, lauding its phenomenal nose with aromas of currants, blackberries, roses, and violets. He described the wine as full-bodied with polished tannins that last for minutes, emphasizing its purity and focus. Suckling suggests that this might be the greatest Solaia ever, recommending it for both immediate enjoyment and long-term aging.

Wine Spectator rated the 2015 Solaia at 98 points, noting its floral, mint, and medicinal herb aromas. Bruce Sanderson of the publication observed the wine's vibrant structure, youthful harmony, and a lingering finish tinged with fruit, herbs, and spices. He remarked on its terrific balance and length, predicting that the best is yet to come for this wine, recommending consumption from 2022 through 2038.

Wine Enthusiast also awarded the wine 98 points, with Kerin O’Keefe describing it as full-bodied and elegant. The review highlighted aromas of ripe dark-skinned berry, blue flower, spice, menthol, and new leather. On the palate, the wine delivers flavors of cassis, ripe Marasca cherry, licorice, and tobacco, supported by smooth, velvety tannins and surprisingly fresh acidity for a hot vintage. O’Keefe suggests that the wine will benefit from further aging, recommending it be drunk between 2022 and 2035.

Overall, the 2015 Antinori Solaia IGT is highly revered, with reviewers praising its balance, structure, and potential for aging. Its composition of international varietals under the warm Tuscan sun has resulted in a wine that is both powerful and elegant, making it a standout vintage from Antinori.
