Seductive. The nose draws you in deep: It’s like staring into a well of pristine dark cherries, dark plums, blackberries and mulberries. All the oak is perfectly subsumed. The palate’s flawless with immense depth and...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, March 2018

The 2015 Canon was a benchmark wine that seemed to revitalize this historic estate. I was crossing my fingers that it would not disappoint in bottle and I am glad to say that it delivers the goods. It has a very intense...

98+ One of the wines of the vintage is the 2015 Château Canon which is 72% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in 70% new French oak. It offers a perfect example of the old saying “iron fist in a velvet...

This is an opulent, powerful vintage with all the fruit flavours that go with it - ripe plum, damson, black cherry and raspberry, generously textured. Just a gorgeous wine that is starting to show more subtle violet...

This estate, now performing on top form, has produced a rich, dense wine. Swathes of black fruits underline the generous structure and intensity. At first taste, the tannins are soft but that turns out to be an illusion...

A plush, inviting style, with warmed fig and plum sauce notes taking the lead, picking up swaths of cocoa, tobacco and roasted alder along the way. Features plenty of pumping bass, but if you pay attention, there’s a...

Decanter, November 2019

This is very polished and full of interest; Canon 2015 has a nose of coffee and spices, with a leafy edge. Sweet, rich and full-bodied on the palate there is a wonderful freshness of crunchy red fruit here. It’s packed...

Chateau Canon is a famous Saint-Emilion estate widely recognized as one of the best in the appellation. The property started out as part of the Clos St. Martin vineyard with only 30 acres. After purchasing it in 1760, by Monsieur Jacques Kanon expanded the estate and its vineyards but then sold it a decade later to Raymond Fontemoing, a Bordeaux wine merchant.

In 1919, the property came into the hands of the Fournier family who invested a lot of time and money, modernizing the estate and vineyards. It remained in their control until the 1990’s but by that time Chateau Canon was having some serious problems: TCA contamination, vine disease, and subsidence of the quarried cellars beneath the property.

When the Wertheimer family, which owns Chanel, acquired the estate in 1996, it was in a sorry condition and they invested in restoring the full potential of Chateau Canon for Premier Grand Cru Classe wines. A period of extensive renovation and replanting was undertaken. The 18th century residence is now entirely restored to the highest standards.

The estate’s 85 acres are planted to 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, with the average vine age now close to 30 years. The substantial estate is on Saint-Emilion’s famous limestone plateau close to the town.

Chateau Canon has a walled vineyard at the entrance to Saint-Emilion planted to Merlot. This unique 5,000 square foot parcel is ploughed by horse and hand harvested in traditional style. Its grapes are used in crafting the estate’s Grand Vin.

A blend of 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc aged 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% new.

The 2015 Canon Bordeaux Blend from Saint Emilion, France is an exceptional wine that showcases the true artistry and craftsmanship of winemaking. With its deep, dark red color, this wine immediately captures the eye and hints at the richness and complexity that lies within.

On the nose, the 2015 Canon is a symphony of aromas that dance and intertwine. Notes of blackberry preserves, black cherry compote, and fruitcake fill the air, accompanied by hints of mocha, plum preserves, and exotic spices. There is a touch of Indian spices, licorice, and black olives that adds a unique and captivating element to the bouquet.

As you take your first sip, the wine envelops your palate with ripe, rich dried berries and layers of exotic spices. It is full-bodied and bold, with a slightly chewy structure that gives it depth and complexity. Despite its power, the wine maintains a sense of freshness, thanks to its balanced acidity (pH 3.78). The finish is long and savory, leaving you with a lingering impression of its exceptional quality.

This wine has received high praise from renowned wine critics. Lisa Perrotti-Brown of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded the 2015 Canon an impressive score of 96, describing it as boldly fruited with a firm structure and a flavor spectrum that will fully emerge with further cellaring. Jeff Leve of TheWineCellarInsider.com gave it a perfect score of 100, noting its truffle, floral, and dark fruit aromas, as well as its sensuous and silky texture.

Other critics have also praised the 2015 Canon. Jeb Dunnuck awarded it a score of 98+, hailing it as one of the wines of the vintage. Wine Spectator gave it a score of 97, highlighting its plush and inviting style, with a laser of chalky minerality driving the finish. James Suckling also awarded it a perfect score of 100, calling it seductive and flawless.

Overall, the 2015 Canon is a wine that demands attention and appreciation. Its exceptional quality, depth, and complexity make it a true gem from the Bordeaux region. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for further development, this wine promises an unforgettable experience that will captivate wine enthusiasts for years to come.
