This has a forward personality—open, expressive and showy in the nose—from a typically warm and ripe year that resulted in a voluptuous and hedonistic Espectacle that's easy to like. It's rounder and lusher than the 2014 I had next to it, and the two vintages showed very different. The palate is also gentler, with integrated acidity and a soft mouthfeel. Some 6,000 bottles were filled in May 2017.- LG

Impressively concentrated yet lively on the palate, offering mineral-laced black raspberry, cherry cola, violet pastille and spicecake flavors that open up steadily with air.
