jamessuckling.com, February 2018

A rich and round wine with beautiful fruit and chocolate, meat and berry character. Full body and a juicy finish. Hard not to drink now as it’s so delicious. But wait. Drink in 2020 onwards.

Wine Spectator, March 2018

A rich, expressive, slightly showy style, with waves of cassis, creamed raspberry and boysenberry fruit racing forth, backed by a polished yet ample structure. The long, licorice- and ganache-framed finish packs on weight...

jebdunnuck.com, October 2018

The 2015 Monbousquet showed much better this go-round (it was incredibly oaky last year) and is another rocking vintage for this cuvée. Beautifully ripe, full-bodied, opulent, and undeniably hedonistic, it’s loaded with...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2018

Blended of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in French oak, 70% new, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Monbousquet simply sings even at this youthful stage with notes of crushed black...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2018

This wine is smooth, with a cream-chocolate texture that's rich and dense. Velvety tannins opulently balance with the superripe fruit. This is not a shy wine, everything is right out front. Drink from 2026.

The Wine Independent, November 2022

Monbousquet 2015 is deep garnet-colored. It bursts from the glass with flamboyant scents of baked black plums, black cherry compote, and fruitcake, followed by suggestions of Indian spices and cigar box. Full-bodied...

Decanter, January 2017

This is a big, silky, damson-strewn experience. There is a welcome sense of restraint on the finish, and a flush of freshness which brings balance to what is an extremely muscular wine. The gravel soils have brought out...

Chateau Monbousquet is a Saint-Emilion wine estate dating back to 1540. The estate prospered and achieved great fame during the second half of the 19th century under the brief but inspired direction of Comte de Vassal-Montviel. He enlarged the vineyard, bringing it to its present size and making it one of the largest estates in Saint-Emilion.

The arrival of Chantal and Gerard Perse in 1993 started a new chapter in the chateau’s story, ushering in a veritable “leap in quality”. Production standards were completely revised both in the vineyards and in the cellars, with state-of-the-art installations suitable for producing a great wine. Gerard Perse also planted the first white vines in Saint-Emilion. His efforts paid off and in 2006 Monbousquet was promoted to the rank of a Grand Cru Classe.

The estate includes 32 hectares of vines planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon on warm, deep gravel soils to the south and sandy-clay soils to the north. The average age of the vines is 38 years. Three wines are produced on the estate: two red wines, the main wine Monbousquet and the second wine Angelique de Monbousquet, and a white wine, Monbousquet Blanc, from the small parcel of white wine grapes.

The grand vin of Monbousquet is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is rich, has great complexity and aromas of ripe fruit.
